Conservation Lakefield protects another spectacular natural area in Gore

The purchase of The Summit adds 19.4 hectares of conserved land in Gore and the MRC d’Argenteuil

June 21, 2026, Gore, Québec –  CONSERVATION LAKEFIELD is proud to announce the acquisition of 19.4 hectares (47.9 acres) of natural land in Gore, Quebec. This major purchase will protect an environmentally significant area of rich forest. On the market for development of roads and housing, the area will instead be preserved in perpetuity in its natural state.

This is the fourth major acquisition by Conservation Lakefield, which now protects more than 171 hectares (422 acres) of natural land in Gore, Quebec. The conservation of this land was made possible with funding from the la Fondation pour la biodiversité et la faune du Québec in partnership with the Nature Conservancy of Canada, as part of the Accélérer la conservation au sud du Québec (ACSQ) project, for which the Government of Quebec provided financial support. Additional funding was also received from Nature-Action Quebec, through the federal ACSQ initiative, supported by Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) under the Nature Fund, as well as through the immense generosity of many local citizens.

QUOTES

Protecting The Summit has been a community effort in the truest sense. Volunteers, neighbours, local partners and government funders all came together around a shared conviction that this land deserved to be conserved. As a founding member of Conservation Lakefield, I am proud of how far we have come — and deeply grateful to everyone who helped make this major acquisition in Gore.

Louise Caouette-Laberge, President and founding member of Conservation Lakefield

The Summit sits at the heart of the southern Laurentians ecological corridor — old-growth forest, wetlands, peat bogs, and the Eastern River all within one property. Protecting land like this doesn’t just preserve what’s here today. It keeps the region’s ecosystems connected and resilient for generations to come.
Patrick Demars, Vice President and founding member of Conservation Lakefield

The protection of Le Sommet is excellent news for our community. This project reflects the importance we place, here in Gore, on preserving our natural heritage and promoting development that respects our environment. I would like to commend the outstanding work of Conservation Lakefield and its partners, as well as the engagement of our citizens, whose efforts now allow us to pass on this exceptional landscape to future generations.
Alain Giroux, Mayor, Township of Gore

Through the 2030 Nature Plan, the Government of Quebec has committed to meeting global biodiversity conservation targets. This 2024 policy framework is built on greater contribution and collaboration from local and regional actors across Québec. Here in Argenteuil, we have long understood that our prosperity also depends on our ability to preserve our natural identity. I am delighted that Conservation Lakefield is stepping up to contribute to this vision. This homegrown conservation organization is a valuable, dynamic, and effective agent of change. I extend my heartfelt thanks for this significant new acquisition.
Agnès Grondin, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Municipal Affairs, MNA for Argenteuil, Coalition Avenir Québec

I would like to thank Conservation Lakefield and its partners for their remarkable commitment and efforts to protect nature. This project contributes not only to the sustainability of The Summit, but also to the preservation of biodiversity and the well-being of the community. Together, we are taking action to achieve our goal of conserving 30% of Canada’s lands and oceans by 2030.
The Honourable Julie Dabrusin, Minister of the Environment, Climate Change and Nature

Protecting nature relies on the collective commitment of communities, partners, and organizations that join forces to preserve our environment. Initiatives like the one we are celebrating today are essential to fight biodiversity loss. This engagement demonstrates Canadians’ deep connection to nature and is central to our goal of conserving 30% of our land by 2030.
The Honourable Nathalie Provost, Secretary of State (Nature)
